Description
This is my entry for CONTEST Theme Technical[Alas, details aren't always viewable at only 716px wide. Still, I did make sure to put enough textures that it wouldn't matter so much]
Technicals
Photoshop CS2, Wacom Intuos 2
About 24 hours (once again, lost count)
Started working on this on June 8 finished June 21 (signed prematurely on June 20).
No references, just fun stuff off the top of my head.
Motivation
I didn't want to disappoint Pam when she bolded the words 'use your imagination!' so I spent a good 2-4 hours thinking and sketching out ideas.
I went outside and saw a preying mantis miss his dragonfly lunch -- this was my initial inspiration.
Here is is Pam! A completely original work just for your contest. I hope you like it.
Story
Envisioned here is a world where technology copies aspects of nature in order to function.
The environment is full of representations -- the trees are bundles of red wires, discarded bolts and nails look like mushrooms, and (barely visible) bamboos in the back are wire twisties. (This can almost be the 'lowest level' of a gigantic computer.)
The blue fly depicted has several jobs -- Nicknamed 'Super Flies' --Groups of them are required to be in specific areas at all times. They clean, manipulate, repair, and do the nitty gritty that human hands can't always reach. They have very high processing power and are constantly linked to one another, giving them the ability to form a basic social hierarchy and communication network.
The big yellow guy has only one job -- seek out slow, defective Super Flies and destroy them. He's on the ground most of the time and doesn't need the ultra-high CPU. He merely needs to know that if he can reach a fly, it must be terminated. He has basic communication modules and is required to check into a hub once a day for repairs and cleaning.
It’s a world that, for the most part, functions on its own. Human intervention is rare.
Thoughts
I like playing with contrasts, bigger and slower versus small and fast. If this humors you, I've done my part!
Thanks for reading!

I like the colours here; deep red and metallic yellow with a green tone. The pose of the yellow guy is nice, as it looks like he's about to attack. The fly is rather cute.
But the screws on the ground should have a less whoolen look. They don't look like they are made of hard metal.
Anyway, keep it up!

Lots of details are lost when converting from 9000px to 719px... but the print version is about 30 inches wide and looks great!

great light source...flowing composition...definately look at the main action before investigating the background...that fly has sooo gotten away.
